The Comoros. Everyday life in a small village. Traditional comorean beauty mask and marriage dress.
#Comores #TravelDocumentary
After long walk all over the vanilla and ylang ylang plantation we came to the small village Paje to learn about simple everyday life in the Comoros islands. We helped Maketses brother to replace a roof with some palm leaves. Tali tried traditional sandalwood beauty mask, which helps to protect the skin from the sun in East Africa. We visited a very famous tailor to dress up with a traditional marriage dress.

Corruption Perceptions Index 2022 Comoros key trends
Short, medium and long-term corruption trends for Comoros and neighbouring East African countries are presented in this video using scores published by Transparency International in their 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) report.
Comoros’ CPI score recorded a marked decline during 2012-2022. After a mixed performance in 2012-2017, the country’s CPI score fell steadily through 2017-2022.
In view of the adverse rates of change in Comoros’ CPI score in 2012-2022 and 2017-2022, it is not surprising that the country’s CPI score recorded the worst performance in East Africa in these periods. #corruption #comoros #eastafrica

The country has three official languages: Comorian, French, and Arabic.
Comoros was first settled by Bantu speakers from East Africa, Arabs, and Austronesians. It then became part of the French colonial empire during the 19th century, before its independence in 1975. Since then, it has experienced more than 20 coups or attempted coups, with various heads of state assassinated. Along with this constant political instability, it has the worst income inequality of any nation, with a Gini coefficient of over 60%, and ranks in the worst quartile on the Human Development Index. As of 2008, about half the population lived below the international poverty line of US$1.25 a day. The French insular region of Mayotte, the most prosperous territory in the Mozambique Channel, is a major destination for migrants from the independent islands.

Description: The Comoros , officially the Union of the Comoros , is an island country in the Indian Ocean located at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel off the eastern coast of Africa between northeastern Mozambique, the French region of Mayotte, and northwestern Madagascar. The capital and largest city in Comoros is Moroni. The religion of the majority of the population is Sunni Islam. At 1,660 km2 , excluding the contested island of Mayotte, the Comoros is the fourth-smallest African nation by area. The population, excluding Mayotte, is estimated at 795,601. As a nation formed at a crossroads of different civilisations, the archipelago is noted for its diverse culture and history. The archipelago was first inhabited by Bantu speakers who came from East Africa, supplemented by Arab and Austronesian immigration. The sovereign state is an archipelago consisting of three major islands and numerous smaller islands, all in the volcanic Comoro Islands. The major islands are commonly known by their French names: northwestern-most Grande Comore , Mohéli , and Anjouan . In addition, the country has a claim on a fourth major island, southeastern-most Mayotte , though Mayotte voted against independence from France in 1974, has never been administered by an independent Comoros government, and continues to be administered by France . France has vetoed United Nations Security Council resolutions that would affirm Comorian sovereignty over the island. In addition, Mayotte became an overseas department and a region of France in 2011 following a referendum passed overwhelmingly. It became part of the French colonial empire in the end of 19th century before becoming independent in 1975. Since declaring independence, the country has experienced more than 20 coups d'état or attempted coups, with various heads of state assassinated. Along with this constant political instability, the population of the Comoros lives with the worst income inequality of any nation, with a Gini coefficient over 60%, while also ranking in the worst quartile on the Human Development Index. As of 2008 about half the population lived below the international poverty line of US.25 a day. The French insular region of Mayotte, which is the more prosperous territory in the Mozambique Channel, is the major destination for Comorian illegal migrants who flee their country. The Comoros is a member state of the African Union, Francophonie, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Arab League and the Indian Ocean Commission. Other countries near the Comoros are Tanzania to the northwest and the Seychelles to the northeast. Its capital is Moroni, on Grande Comore. The Union of the Comoros has three official languages—Comorian, Arabic, and French.

In collaboration with the national government, and through widespread community participation, the Moheli Marine Park was created as a protected area with established rules for management and resource use. The National Park has zoning rules and rules for resource use to protect the natural habitat in the area. Park management monitors and evaluates the area to assess the success of regulations and rules. They are also working to develop economic activities related to the park and increase programs to teach environmental awareness to community members and visitors.

Geography
The Comoros Islands—Grande Comoro (Ngazidja), Anjouan, Mohéli, and Mayotte (which is not part of the country and retains ties to France)—constitute an archipelago of volcanic origin in the Indian Ocean, 190 mi off the coast of Mozambique.
Government
Emerging republic.
History
Comoros was frequented by travelers from Africa, Madagascar, Indonesia, and Arabia before the first Europeans encountered the islands. Arabic influence has been the strongest.
France colonized Mayotte in 1843 and by 1904 had annexed the remainder of the archipelago. In a 1974 referendum, 95% of the population voted for independence. The exception was Mayotte, which, with its Christian majority, voted against joining the other mainly Islamic islands in independence. Today it remains a French overseas territory.
The remaining Comoros Islands declared themselves independent on July 6, 1975, with Ahmed Abdallah as president. A month after independence, he was overthrown by Justice Minister Ali Soilih. This was only the beginning of Comoros's chronic instability: the country has gone through more than 20 coups since independence and has experienced several attempts at secession. Orchestrating at least four of these coups was a group of white mercenaries known as Les Affreux (The Terrible Ones), and their notorious leader, Frenchman “Colonel” Bob Denard. Denard fled Comoros in 1989, when 3,000 French soldiers were sent after him. #national #anthem#world #educational #family#new update#new video #new#culture #country
